Finally finding some time to get dirty, I rolled my old MPV differential out from the backyard and tore it down to see what was making all the noises and vibrations.
After some time with the impact gun, I had it all apart.

After it was disassembled (to salvage all the metric hardware) I cleaned up the ring and pinion and got this close-up of the left-over pieces and where they came from.
